Georgina P. Blach Intermediate School in Los Altos, California

With Daylight Harvester controls, the Blach middle school descreased energy costs by 63%.
The Georgina P. Blach Intermediate School in Los Altos is one of several California High Performance schools that use the Easylite Daylight Harvesting system in classrooms and administrative areas.
The school was remodeled and expanded to enhance natural daylight contributions from clerestory windows and existing vision glass. Lighting was retrofitted to utilize suspended direct/indirect fixtures with Easylite ballasts installed. Each suspended fixture row included an Easylite Daylight Harvester, which senses ambient light contribution, and maintains lighting at a consistent level throughout the classrooms.
An energy study of the operation of the lighting system during the school year verified a 63% savings in energy consumption as a result of the Daylight Harvester controls alone.
